The early champions, Arne Hoffmeister and Fabian Wrabetz (Dörr Motorsport), finished this season as they should have: They also won the final of the TMG GT86 Cup on the Nürburgring. Wolfgang and Kevin Hönscheid (WH Motorsport) ranked second again, and third was another Dörr Motorsport Toyota CS V3, driven by Thomas Bolz, Nils Jung and Florian Wolf.
During the final, the weather once again played a starring role on the traditional Eifel track. Fog had first delayed the start and the race had to be shortened to three hours. As the course of the afternoon visibility although worsened once again, the race dicrector was forced to end the race shortly before the three hours were over. Fortunately, the required minimum distance had been driven, so all points could be awarded as usual. With their new class victory, the cup winners, Hoffmeister/Wrabetz, remained third in the overall VLN table and have shown another really great performance. The VLN title turned out to be unwinnable after all, since Dirk and Tim Groneck, leading the table, dominated their class too and were thus able to win it for the second time.
“We had done what we were supposed to do and with our eighth win this season still stood a theoretical chance of winning the VLN title. In the end, it didn’t suffice. But with this win, our best time during practice and another fastest lap in the TMG GT86 Cup, we ended this season masterly,” says Dörr-Team-Manager Uwe Isert.
Ranking second in the last race this year, father and son Hönscheid also stayed second in the brand cup. “We had had a few problems during practice and thus had to start from the last place, but during the race our car ran perfectly. So we could get back to second place, also in the cup as such, which is a very satisfying outcome for us,” says Wolfgang Hönscheid. The Team Toyota Swiss Racing this time ranked sixth, after their success in the ninth race, and ended the season in third place.
Nico Ehlert, Principal Engineer Customer Motorsport: “After an exciting final, Wolfgang and Kevin Hönscheid rank second in the TMG GT86 Cup. The father-son team enjoyed a convincing second season. Congrats! And that the Team Toyota Swiss Racing ended up third is also quite something. It’s a pity, though, that our cup winners, Hoffmeister and Wrabetz, didn’t win the VLN title after all, despite their win in our cup’s race. But the Groneck brothers were good throughout and deserve their title. Congratulations!“
