The rear-wheel-drive GT86 CS-R3 rally car will compete in selected events of the 2017 Tour European Rally Series as part of a TOYOTA Motorsport GmbH (TMG) entry.

Having already proven to be a serious contender for two-wheel-drive class victories in British and German rally championships, the CS-R3 will take on several European events to validate significant performance upgrades made in recent months.

Starting in Romania, TMG is targeting 2WD class victories with the enhanced CS-R3 car, which has benefited from engine upgrades to improve torque, modified gear ratios, a new Milltek Sport exhaust system and reduced weight. Those upgrades have been tested on tarmac and gravel and have performed well in all conditions.

Former European champion Luca Rossetti and co-driver Eleonora Mori, who made their CS-R3 debut and set the R3 pace on the Barum Czech Rally Zlin last year, will drive the TMG entry on several events in 2017, beginning with the Transilvania Rally in Romania on 4 May. Further participations will be announced in the coming weeks.

The CS-R3 stood on the podium several times in 2016, including an outright win in the Ulster National Rally, several class wins on the way to runners-up spot in the 2WD German Rally Championship with Gassner Motorsport and R3 class wins in Britain courtesy of RallyPrep.

Emanuele Battisti, Customer Motorsport Engineering Project Leader: “We are excited to compete with the CS-R3 in various rallies around Europe this year. It is important for us to show the strong performance of this car again and add to the 2WD class victories already achieved by our customers in Germany and Britain. We know the competition in R3 and 2WD categories is intense so we are not standing still; the CS-R3 is evolving and we expect to establish it as the performance leader in its class. The Tour European Rally Series is a great place to show this, in combination with the efforts of our customer teams across Europe this year.”
