Charlotte Wilking wins TMG United driver search

A new face will be behind the wheel of TMG United’s GT86 CS-V3 race car in the VLN series at the Nürburgring. The team, made up of volunteers from TOYOTA Motorsport GmbH (TMG) held a driver search during the first VLN race of the season, with a thorough examination of five selected applicants out of a total of 80 hopefully. TMG United project managers Yves Lötzerich and André Haun joined the panel of judges and selected 28-year-old Charlotte Wilking from Waltrop, around 100km north of Cologne, to drive in six VLN races this year.

Charlotte is very experienced in motorsport. At the age of eight she started as a kart driver and since 2007 has often participated in RCN and VLN races at the Nürburgring. In 2011 and 2012 she was the team-mate of rapper Smudo from German band Die Fantastischen Vier in his Team Four Motors at the Nürburgring 24 Hours.

“I’m glad that I won the driver search and thank TMG United for their trust in me. I am looking forward to my first race at VLN 2 on 12 April and to working with the team. I’m sure that this will be an important milestone in my motorsport career,” said Charlotte. She will drive her six 2014 races alongside Moritz Oestreich, the winner of last year’s TMG United driver search.

“The five applicants were all very qualified and met our requirements. First, we chose one male and one female driver. Charlotte then came out on top because of her stronger experience and driving skills as attested by her results and lap times,” said Yves Lötzerich. His colleague André Haun said: “We look forward to providing a young woman with the opportunity to gain more motorsport experience with us. Our objective is to promote both drivers and put them on the same footing in terms of their driving skills. After all, we want to see better results in this second year of the TMG United project.”

TMG United is made up only of TMG staff who work in various departments and participate in motorsport only in their free time.  The TMG United project allows them to expand their experience in motorsport and bring lessons learned on the race track back to work at the factory.
