Exciting start for the TMG GT86 Cup at the Nürburgring

The TMG GT86 Cup second season started with an exciting race at the Nürburgring this weekend. After 23 laps of the ‘Green Hell’, the TMG GT86 CS-V3 race car number 540 of Martin Tschornia, Wolfgang and Alexander Kudrass, driving for the Leutheuser Racing & Events, took victory. Their teammates Jutta Beisiegel, Ralf Goral and Pawel Ledwon were 3mins 11secs behind in second while third place went to the Pit Lane team in its debut Cup race, with Olivier Muytjens, Bruno Francesco Barbaro, Gilles Vannelet and Brody as drivers.

“It is always nice to start the season victorious,” said Alexander Kudrass. “Even more so since at the beginning it hardly looked like we could win. Martin Tschornia was driving first and had to pit due to a flat-spotted tyre after only two laps. But then it went great and as planned, so that with three full stints we could implement our strategy and win.”

The first race of the VLN series, in which the TMG GT86 Cup features, was a truly exciting one with regular lead changes, particularly around the pit stops. And the TMG GT86 CS-V3 racers fulfilled all expectations of a better performance at the Nürburgring, with significantly improved lap times compared to last year thanks to upgrades by TOYOTA Motorsport GmbH (TMG).

British pair Sarah and Nigel Moore showed that performance but suffered a lot of bad luck. The Team Vantage Motorsport siblings were in pole position and stretched their lead to 17 seconds over the first hour before suffering an accident which necessitated a long pit stop for repairs. They rejoined but unfortunately suffered further damage nand had to retire.

Nico Ehlert, Principal Engineer Customer Motorsport: “Today we have seen everything that is so fascinating about motorsport: a really exciting race and tough fights. We couldn’t have wished for a better contest to start the second year of the TMG GT86 Cup. We can expect a really interesting season with a bigger and better field of competitors so I really look forward to our second race on 12 April.”
