The GR Supra GT4 had a dream debut in Pirelli GT4 America by celebrating an Am class win in Sunday’s race.
The American GT4 championship started its new season at Sonoma Raceway, California, last weekend with Smooge Racing and Forbush Performance both fielding the new GR Supra GT4 for the very first time. For the Supra, it was only the second race weekend in North America following its successful US debut on the Daytona 24 Hours support bill in January.
The newly-formed Smooge Racing team did not take long to get to grips with the new car, claiming victory in the Am class in the second race of the weekend on Sunday. The GR Supra GT4 thus celebrated its first victory in the USA after previous successes in Europe and Japan in 2020.
Thanks to the Sunday victory and a third place in Saturday’s race, drivers John Geesbreght and Kevin Conway also took an early lead in the Pirelli GT4 America’s Am championship.
Forbush Performance, running the second GR Supra GT4 with drivers Damon Surzyshyn and Matt Forbush, finished tenth in the Am class in both races, in a grid of 32 cars.
