Ring Racing wants to win TMG GT86 Cup

When at the beginning of this season, Nils Jung and Florian Wolf said they wanted to become the TMG GT86 Cup winners, some drivers and teams found that amazing. After all, the duo, this year fielded by Ring Racing, had never won any race in this attractive TOYOTA Motorsport GmbH (TMG) cup before,but the twowalked the talk. Five races “down the track” and they have two wins under their belt, were among the top 3 in all races, and even ended up being the half-time champs.

They also used the half-time break to regenerate for the second half, starting on 20 August. Florian Wolf spent his holiday on Tenerife, Nils Jung in Sweden, places where they both took stock. “That was a rather nice start,” said a grinning Wolf, “although in the first race and the fifth we could have scored better. An edge of six points are no laurels to rest on, but winning the cup remains our goal. We have shown that we can do it and want to stay on that track,” Wolf added.

His team-mate Nils Jung, however, is not quite so euphoric and points to the exciting battle for the TMG GT86 Cup among the top 3 teams, “which are separated by only eleven points,” he said and added: “One bad day or a breakdown and we are no longer in the lead.” Jung/Wolf have scored 88 points in the five races thus far and are in front of Manuel Amweg/Thomas Lampert, Toyota Swiss Racing (82 points) and the winners of the first race this season, “Brody“, Bruno-Francesco Barbaro and Olivier Muytjens (Pitlane – AMC Sankt Vith, 77 points). With the Belgian team thus also fighting for the title, Jung, a mechanical engineering student, thinks about the next race only. “We work in a focused manner, score regularly and want to make sure we don’t suffer any breakdowns,” he said.

Ring Racing boss Uwe Kleen is full of praise: “Jung and Wolf are a real team, who have developed over the season, which you can tell from their ever faster lap times. They make only very few mistakes and always provide our mechanics with feedback on the car’s handling. There can be no better drivers for people like me.”

Ring Racing is in a comfortable position at any rate. After all, the team from Boxberg, which is very near the Nürburgring, has two irons in the fire: its own car and also the Toyota Swiss Racing TMG GT86 Cup, which it services and whose drivers, Manuel Amweg and Thomas Lampert, have also won twice already this season. But Kleen doesn’t see any conflict of interest here: “Both cars are serviced with the same care. We want to win – with whichever car.“
