The TMG GT86 Cup season finale: an exciting fight for the title

Just like last year, in the second season of the TMG GT86 Cup the champion will be determined in the last race. This will take place once again on the Nürburgring within the framework of the VLN championship, during the 39. DMV Münsterlandpokal on 25 October.

The favourites are, of course, the current leaders, Arne Hoffmeister and Fabian Wrabetz of the Dörr Motorsport team. But their advantage is only 2.91 points and Martin Tschornia of Leutheuser Racing & Events is close on their heels. Still in play are also the siblings Sarah and Nigel Moore (Vantage Motorsport), ranking third and 7.19 points behind. Jutta Beisiegel, who won the Cup last year, and her team-mate Pawel Ledwon are fourth, with a deficit of 7.56 points. All these drivers can still dream of the Cup.

And in view of his small deficit to the leaders, Martin Tschornia is still optimistic. “One has to have a positive attitude,” says the cutting machine operator from Bestwig in the Sauerland. “I know, of course, that it will be difficult to win without outside help. But there are always possibilities. Perhaps we will be lucky.”

And the experienced racer has had his share of bad luck already. In 2013 he scored as many points in the TMG GT86 Cup as the eventual winner, but was not an official contender because he did not register for the series. This season he was one of the victims of the suspended fourth race. The corrected score in that race cost him points he now needs. But the 59-year-old shows good sportsmanship: “We will do our best and see what happens. A second place would also be nice. In fact, at the start of the season even that would have been beyond my wildest dreams. And I certainly won’t force anything now.”

Nico Ehlert, Principal Engineer Customer Motorsport: “An extremely exciting season is drawing to a close. We have seen great races and great motorsport. That the winner will now once again be determined only in the last race is really the icing on the cake. A one-make cup requires equal opportunities and I’m very proud that our GT86 CS-V3 racer is able to provide this. I’m also very excited to see who is going to win the Cup and am glad that I don’t have to bet on anyone. I’m sure of one thing, though: the winner will truly have earned it.”
