TMG GT86 Cup: Challenging six-hour race

  • Milltek Racing aiming to defend its Cup advantage
  • Pit Lane – AMC Saint Vith extends driver line-up
  • Scratch result in TOYOTA’s one-make Cup can still influence the outcome

A lot of work is waiting for the participants in the fifth race of the TMG GT86 Cup, which takes place on 19 August within the VLN championship and is regarded as the highlight of the season as a six, rather than four, hour race.

Milltek Racing (66 points) extended its lead at the top of the table with victory in the fourth race and now leads by 11 points from Leutheuser Racing & Events (55 points) but the exciting fight remains open going into the fifth race of the year.

Cup regulations allow teams to discard one result at the end of the season. As it stands, the top two teams have finished all races so far, so they face the prospect of losing points in the final calculation. That means the chances of defending Cup champions Toyota Swiss Racing, on 53 points in third place, are still intact despite a retirement in the season opener. If the situation remains, the Swiss team could strike a result at the end of the season, without losing points.

Also team Pit Lane AMC Sankt Vith, with 43 points in fifth overall, has already suffered one retirement. Therefore their last three finishes, of fourth, third and second, would therefore count for the championship. The Belgian team will now hope to continue this ascending trend and earn a first victory of the season. “We come here to clearly win every race, this is our goal. At least one place on the podium is our target,” says team boss and driver Olivier Muytjens. Alongside Muytjens himself and his permanent team colleague “Brody”, Jacques Derenne will also be in the #532 car for the six-hour race. Unlike the last race, when “Brody” drove for the final three hours due to Muytjens’ commitments in an SP10 class car, the driving work is now balanced again.
