TMG GT86 Cup race 6: Let the Battle Recommence

After an exciting opening half of the TMG GT86 Cup season, the sixth round this weekend at the Nürburgring marks the start of the final battle for honours in identical GT86 CS-V3 race cars.

Following a break for the VLN series, in which the TMG GT86 Cup runs, action resumes with a four-hour race around the Nordschleife. The opening races of the second year of TMG’s single-make championship have already shown how closely balanced the field is. This means consistently strong performance around the ‘green hell’ is needed to win.

The fight for the 2014 Cup honours is extremely tight at the top of the standings, subject to the final result of race five, with various protests delaying confirmation of the result. The two top teams, Toyota Swiss Racing, with Werner Schmid and Roger Vögeli, and Leutheuser Racing & Events, with Jutta Beisiegel, Ralf Goral and Pawel Ledwon, have yet to win a race this season but hold prime position in the standings. However, race winners Dörr Motorsport, with Maciej Dreszer, Arne Hoffmeister and Fabian Wrabetz, and Vantage Motorsport, with siblings Nigel and Sarah Moore, are fourth and sixth respectively. That can all change in the second half of the season.

And all TMG GT86 Cup participants are enjoying the benefits of a reliable and high-performance race car. In the second year of the TMG GT86 Cup, the GT86 CS-V3 has again displayed an extremely strong reliability record, despite the intense stress on the cars around the challenging Nürburgring Nordschleife. The optimised coupé is even faster than last year and lap times now regularly fall below the 10-minute barrier; an impressive feat for a car powered by a two-litre production engine with around 200hp.

Nico Ehlert, Principal Engineer Customer Motorsport: “The second half of the TMG GT86 Cup season will be very exciting. The fight for the title is still open; there is no dominant team. A race will be won with a bit of luck and if the drivers are in good shape, just as it should be in a single-make cup with identical cars. I therefore would not like to make any prediction about the result; everything is possible. I look forward to the next race and wish all teams the best of luck.”
