TMG United will welcome one new and one familiar face to its driver line-up for the Nürburgring 24 Hours, held on 22-23 June. The team, made up of TOYOTA Motorsport GmbH (TMG) volunteers, will work with a quartet of young local drivers with comprehensive knowledge of the Nordschleife.
Team regulars Adrian Brusius, 21, and Alex Fielenbach, 27, will be joined by Lars Peucker, 23, and Finn Unteroberdörster, 21. While Lars already took the wheel of TMG United’s GT86 CS-Cup in last year’s race, Finn will make his debut in the 212hp car which will compete against fierce competition in the SP3 class.
TMG United team manager Andre Haun said: “We are really pleased to give an opportunity to two young local drivers, who we know are very quick on the Nordschleife. Lars and Finn will perfectly complement Adrian and Alex, who are by now very experienced with the team and have proven themselves to be consistently fast.”
As part of their preparations for the 24 hours, TMG United already took part in the season-opening VLN round on 23 March where they finished second in the SP3 class as the best GT86. Here the notorious Eifel weather lived up to its reputation with thick fog which made racing impossible in the morning. The organisers had no chance but to reduce the race distance by 75 minutes from the planned four hours.
That had a direct impact on TMG United’s strategy, as Andre Haun explains: “We had calculated that we can do the entire race with one set of tyres and only refuel. This worked out well and, starting from third, we were at one point only two seconds behind the class-leader. As expected, our tyres were deteriorating but we still finished second in a very competitive class and this felt like a win.”
One of the TMG employees volunteering to join the TMG United project at VLN 1 was Calculation Engineer Hemanth Kumar Balasubramanian who reported: “Although I have often been to race tracks in the past, I have never had the experience of working as part of a track team. Therefore, the opportunity to work as a part of TMG United was a no-brainer for me. I was taken aback by the level of detail that goes into the various responsibilities. Everyone in the team needs to be flexible to handle constantly varying conditions. Throughout the weekend, each person in the team showed commitment and enthusiasm. I thoroughly enjoyed being part of the track team, was able to learn a lot, and this experience gives me newer perspectives that will help me develop further in my daily work as well. I look forward to my next race weekend.”
The next race for TMG United is just around the corner, with the second round of the VLN season coming next weekend.
