TOYOTA Racing with the numbers #7 and #8

Last Thursday, TOYOTA Racing received two entries from ACO for the Le Mans 24 Hours. At the French circuit, the two TS030 HYBRIDs will be bearing the numbers #7 and #8 in a nod to the manufacturer’s previous participations at Le Mans.

From its early participations in the mid-eighties, TOYOTA wore these numbers in several forms: 37 and 38 several times, and then 27, 28 or 57 on various occasions. TOYOTA used the numbers #7 and #8 for the beginning of the TS010 era in 1992, achieving a second row qualifying. For its debut at the Le Mans 24 Hours  in 1998, the TS020 (GT-One) was bearing the #27, #28 – which set 2nd time in qualifying and fastest race lap – and #29.

As a matter of interest, one of TOYOTA’s Racing drivers is quite familiar with the #7. Alex Wurz won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1996 with this number. He will race again with this lucky number in 2012, with Nicolas Lapierre and Kazuki Nakajima as teammates.
